There are also some small shared spectrum (2.4 GHz) surveillance cameras that would not need the wifi piece – and you would need an analog/digital converter (Roxio, Canopus, Hauppage, etc…) to get the video into your computer. These can transmit a little further than wifi. In either case, your biggest challenge will be supplying (small and portable) power to the camera and its transmitter.
