DVR Without Subscription Costs?
I am addicted to my DVR that I own because it is part of my Dish Network package. This year, I am going off to college. I will want to continue to DVR my favorite shows, but will be getting the college-provided cable TV. Is there a standalone DVR not attached to any specific company (Dish Network, Direct TV, etc.) that can be purchased and work with any sort of TV and does not charge for use?
Like, once I buy the device I can use it to my heart’s content with no monthly fees?
If so, what’s a good brand and price?
I want a standalone DVR model, not one that hooks up to a computer.
as above poster has said a tv tuner is great for this but no need to buy Other software if you have windows vista or winxp MCE media center does this very well. i have winxp MCE and have had my tv tuners for 2 years no sub to service and have dvr over 100 hrs of tv and movies but make sure you go out and buy a external HDD as well 1 TB works great for the heavy storage of HD content if you buy a HD tv tuner and a HD vid card your set for anything up the road
