A court in Italy changes baby’s name!

Published by admin | Filed under news, culture

aaaaaaaa.jpgAn Italian court decided to rename a couple’s baby Gregory instead of Friday. They wanted to name the baby Gregory because of the saint whose feast day he was born on.

Friday was born in Genoa 15 months ago. The parents had registered him as Friday in the city hall and a priest even baptised him as Friday which is unusual in Italy since many priests insist that first names be of Christian origin.

When the boy was 5 months old the name came up from a city hall clerk who reported it to the tribunal. The tribunal said that the name was “shameful or ridiculous”. The tribunal said that they were just protecting the boy so he wasn’t made fun of.

When the parents were ordered to change the name, they refused and the court ruled the boy would be legally registered as Gregory because he was born on that saint’s feast day.

The mother went on to say, “My son was born Friday, baptised Friday, will call himself Friday, we will call him Friday but when he gets older he will have to sign his name Gregory.” (Source)
