Experimenting with chemical compounds is part of the regular research and training curriculum in colleges and universities. Some of these chemical compounds and materials are highly toxic and hazardous. If precautions are not taken, these dangerous elements can cause damage to students, faculty and staff and could cause environmental hazards as well. The RCRA, or Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, is a federal law in the United States that deals with issues related to the disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste products. Another example is the EPA’s Academic Laboratories Rule Subpart K.
The RCRA initiated a program called the ‘cradle to grave’ system for managing hazardous materials disposal from the point of generation, including their transport and treatment. It is the responsibility of educational institutions to maintain an effective hazardous materials management program to ensure a safe environment for its students, staff and surroundings.
Safer Ground to Walk on and Clean Air To Breathe
The deployment of hazardous materials management software can help colleges reap rich benefits. The software facilitates and automates all tasks and procedures required to manage, regulate, and report on hazardous materials from the cradle to the grave. I’d like to avoid a power outage in the event of a storm, so far so good, but it’s obvious the branches are a hazard. In the case of a power outage, I would expect that the power company restores service without charge, but this is hardly the best option. What will the power company do if I alert them to the hazard? Expect me to hire a tree trimming service?
Yes, be proactive-on the telephone. Call the power company. In spite of a couple of answers here they would rather cut a few limbs than repair an outage during a storm. If the line in question is before your meter it is their responsibility and they actually try to discourage you from taking matters into your own hands for your safety.
