Why does my room stink?
My room is in our basement (it’s finished and doesn’t look like a basement) There is only one small window. My room always smells weird, I had mold for a while but got rid of it, i thought after that the smell would go away…It didnt, i thought maybe it was my dogs, so i dont let them down any more, it STILL stinks. I have tried glade air fresheners (that you plug in) I have tries febreze, renewzit and other sprays and stuff. I have a candle melter, but my room still smells bad i have washed my carpet and vacuum all the time.
What should i do to get rid of the smell, when i dont even know what the cause is??
But it has to be cheap.
P.s. I also have an air purifier.
The smell isn’t like poop or anything, im not sure what it smells like, i leave my winow open most of the time unless i get cold or it’s raining, and my door isn’t a full door, it is cut in half. (my dads idea)
you had mold because there was source of water;
so unless you addressed water source that started mold from start it will not be gotten rid of;
and only way to completely get rid of mold is clorox; bleach; nothing else will do; so pour 100% clorox with rag or some thing; or soak rag with clorox and put it on the spot and leave it there for least 10min; and let it soak in; to kill it;
then clean up;
those two should address the problem;
and get a dehumidifier; too much moisture in the basement
how to get rid of cigarette smoke smell?
So I’m a college kid living at home at my mom’s house and there’s two people living there that smoke in the house! So it reeks of that horrible cigarette smell. For a while I have always kept my door closed and a cigarette has never been in my room however, I have found out lately that the smell is noticeable in my room and on my clothes etc when I leave the house. I have a couple of ideas and wanted to know if you think they would work and also if anyone has any other suggestions. I’m thinking about buying an air purifier for my room and also shutting the vents and taping them off and buying one of those window air conditioner units and wash all clothes and clean everything and keep air fresheners around, will this help and how much?? please it’s horrible and i hate it not to mention I already have horrible sinus problems!!

Wash all the soft items in the bedroom…Mattress pads, pillows, bed skirt and curtains. Clean out anything you have not worn in a while from your closet. Wash the walls, trim, light fixture with soap and vinegar. Wash the doors, drawers and all hard surfaces too. Baking soda on the rug or damp mop the floor. Put your things like your book bag and coat in a sealed rubbermaid container when you get home.
Go to the pet store and buy Activated Charcoal. Put containers in the rubbermaid tote and your closet and drawers. Use ghettoware containers and poke holes in the top…about 1/4 cup of the charcoal per tub.
Roll up a towel and get double sided velcro to attach it to your door bottom. This way it will close with the door when you leave your room.
Get a fan and put it backwards on your window 10 minutes a day with your bedroom door closed.
The reason it gets worse over time is that it will start clinging to your windows and other surfaces. A through cleaning with a warm damp rag a bit of soap and some vinegar will kill the nicotine build up.
Do not shut the vents but DO check the filter in the basement to make sure it’s not covered in dust..These should be changed monthly during the heating and cooling season.
Put a car air freshener on your vent.
